My Wednesday began with a trip to the dentist. Now, some of you may immediately shudder when you hear the word “dentist.” You might even crawl into fetal position, recalling childhood dreams of a terrifying, masked, drill-wielding man in a white robe, standing over you while you scream inside.
Me? I get excited!
Apart from that one nitrous oxide incident when I was a child (let’s just say it made me sick and resulted in an upset hygienist), I’ve never had any traumatic dental visits. It may help that I’ve seen the same dentists—a friendly father and son team—for my entire life and that we share an Alma Mater (Go Badgers!). But, whatever it is, I honestly don’t mind the awkward hand-in-mouth “conversations” or the splashes of water that inevitably land on my face. Nothing can beat that initial fresh, sparkling, CLEAN feeling once it’s over. And who doesn’t like a free “goodie bag?”
Things nearly took a turn for the worst, however, when my hygienist nonchalantly pointed out, “that looks like a cavity.”What?!?! I admit I almost died inside (I haven’t had a cavity since my pre-teen years!), but then she confirmed quickly it was just a weird, stain-like spot. Phew. I take pride in my dental hygiene; being told I have no cavities is like seeing that gold star affixed upon an A+ test paper. It’s that pesky perfectionism at play!
Now that my far too detailed account of my morning is out of the way, let’s talk about what I ate.
I’ve yet to break out the almond bark or the red and green sprinkles, but I am thinking about holiday sweets like any sane person and hope to make both indulgent and healthy treats soon.
Breakfast: I didn’t eat before my appointment, but I did have my morning coffee—through a straw! (As if one morning cuppa’ would really make a difference on my teeth.) I did have a cashew cookie Lärabar when I got to work, which hit the spot.
Lunch: I gobbled down a baked sweet potato (topped with coconut butter) and a spinach salad (topped with dried cranberries, hemp seeds, a few walnuts, pumpkin seeds, ground black pepper, and a Vidalia onion dressing).
Snackage: Raspberry Chobani, lemon herbal tea, and a piece of king cake.
Dinner: We took the easy road and heated up some canned soup (Amy’s Organic low sodium tomato bisque for me) and made a grilled cheese. I may start featuring my weekend or Tuesday meals for upcoming WIAWs since we always eat soup on Wednesdays. It gets a little boring snapping shots of essentially the same meal each week, although I can’t help that Mark and I are both soup fiends!
I am looking forward to trying this garbanzo bean soup (Hummus with a spoon? Count me in!) in the near future. Or possibly this butternut squash and black bean stew.
Happy WIAW, blog world.
What holiday treats do you look forward to making/eating?
What is your favorite type of soup?
Eating 4 Balance says
I definitely like noodles in my soup, but with grain issues that’s a little harder. I’ve been looking into making some type of squash puree and meat soup, which I think would be perfect for the cold weather. As soon as Christmas break starts I’m going to be cooking up a storm!
