Having survived the apocalypse, I feel that having a special pre-holiday lunch for the office was the perfect idea for today. One member of management prepared chicken curry, seasoned basmati rice, and yogurt sauce, while one of the leads supplied pizza as an alternative. Healthy Indian Cuisine, meet Standard American Diet.
Meals like this one are my favorite part of working at an international company. While I did branch out to try new foods during college and study abroad (my first taste of Indian food–and kangaroo!–was in London), it wasn’t until the first holiday potluck and family-style lunch with coworkers that my taste buds became truly adventurous. Now, I’d have to say that Indian cuisine is one of my favorites, though I don’t eat it often enough.
Here’s my first plate.
The second looked essentially the same, sans pizza.
The rice, which contained green peas and carrots, was fluffy and mildly-spiced. I thought the chicken was perfectly tender, and the potatoes in the curry soaked up just enough spicy goodness. I loved the yogurt sauce, which reminded me of Greek tzatziki. Although I was nearly too stuffed to function, I thought this was a fabulous way to kick off the holiday weekend. Leaving work an hour and a half early (thanks, boss, for understanding the importance of using up sick leave) made the day even better.
After a bit of cleaning, Mark and I went downtown for dinner. We initially planned to try a new German restaurant and tap room, but it wasn’t open yet. We settled for T.P. Crockmiers instead. Dinner was ok–our beers were ridiculously expensive!
It’s a cold night; perfect for the first official day of winter. And perfect for cuddling with Iggy. 🙂
I can’t wait to spend Saturday through Wednesday away from the cubicle and among family. Since I’ll likely be away from the computer, Merry Christmas to you all! Have a safe and family-filled holiday.
