Today I’d hoped to share how I finally ran a mile without stopping. I’m blaming the awful humidity and the half-awake stupor I was in, but Saturday’s run was worse than the previous two! No mile—yet.
Also, my planned run for yesterday didn’t happen because it was extremely windy and raining. I did, however, do a 20-minute interval workout on the (much neglected) elliptical. It felt great!
While I didn’t do much else, I held a 1-minute plank and did some stretching. One of my 30 Before 30 goals is to accomplish a 5-minute plank. Though I’m no where near as muscular as I used to be, my core has always been strong. Naïvely, I thought I’d just be able to do the plank without much effort.
Well…planking (done correctly) is actually quite difficult! While I wasn’t struggling at one minute, I’m not sure I could’ve made five before turning into a pile of jello. Also, Iggy decided he would take full advantage of my face being at his eye tongue level and attacked me with kisses until I had no choice but to stop. He does this when I do handstands, too!
Tonight’s gymnastics class was quite the workout! We did bars for a while; I forgot how jumping from the low to high bar (holding all my weight) and simply swinging requires a lot of muscle. We also did the strap bar (your hands are strapped onto the bar so you can learn “giants,” which are full swings over the bar in handstand position) and pushups at the end of the night. My arms are jello. Before leaving, I did manage to do a couple round-off back-handsprings on the rod floor. Working my way up to another 30 Before 30 goal!
Hopefully, with cooler, drier weather finally approaching after today’s downpours, I am going to put all my effort into running that mile tomorrow evening.
My pictures are atrocious, but it wouldn’t be a proper Wednesday without linking up to Jenn’s WIAW party.
Feeling adventurous for breakfast, I veered from the usual oats and ate 2 slices of Ezekiel cinnamon-raisin toast (topped with cashew butter) and raspberry Chobani.
Knowing I couldn’t make it to noon without a snack, a few goldfish swam into my belly.
My lunch consisted of leftovers: cheesy baked orzo with onions, green peas, and mushrooms with a banana on the side.
To stay awake in the afternoon, I sipped a cup of chai.
And snacked on a few cocoa-dusted almonds.
For dinner, I inhaled another Crockpot creation: butternut squash soup and grilled cheese. (I’ll post the recipe in a few days.)

Gymnasts are such incredible athletes. So agile and soooo strong. Very cool that you have gotten into it.

Thanks. I actually did competitive gymnastics from age 4 to 12. Even though it’s been many years, doing it is not as “foreign” to me as other exercise/sport, if that makes sense. Besides, I could stand to regain some agility (& coordination!) 🙂
