Did everybody’s weekend fly by the way mine did?
Despite feeling cheated of my days off, Monday began well with this energizing breakfast smoothie. Believe it or not, it actually kept me full until lunch (well, I did have a tiny handful of trail mix).
Ingredients
- 2 handfuls spinach
- ½ cup Greek yogurt
- ½ banana
- ¾ cup fruit (frozen mango and mixed berries)
- 1 tbsp cashew butter
- a sprinkling of wheat germ
- orange juice to thin
This past Saturday morning, I ran my first pseudo-race at the Azalea Trail Run! By pseudo, I mean that it was only a 2K “fun run,” which wasn’t even timed. I’m still excited about it, and hopefully next year I will join the real runners in the 5K or 10K.
Judging by our approximate start time and the 10K clock that was still running at the finish line, I know I ran under 12 minutes, probably closer to 10, which would’ve been right at an 8-minute mile. Not too shabby for a novice!
The weather was nearly perfect. It was a bit humid, but it was cool and overcast. The sun came out briefly after the run, and the rain didn’t move in until a few hours later.
After the run, Mark and I walked around the civic center a bit, hoping to find some action at the inaugural Azalea Trail Foodie Fest we’d been hearing about on the radio. Well, we finally found the set-up, and there was nothing “foodie” about it. Nobody had shown up yet, and the only “attractions” there were a booth for Tupperware and an empty stage for cooking demonstrations.
It was quite disappointing, actually, because I’d been looking forward to blogging about the event. Hopefully things picked up later in the day, but we didn’t stay to find out.
After heading home to change and freshen up, we returned downtown to A Spot of Tea for brunch. Owing to our predictability, we shared a Monte Cristo and each had a cup of soup (tomato bisque for me, loaded potato for mark) and some strawberry tea.
We did a little shopping and bought groceries for the week before returning home for leftovers and a quiet night watching more of The West Wing.
Sunday we both worked on each other’s anniversary gifts before chowing down on some marvelous crustaceans for dinner.

They were a little on the small side and not as spicy as we like them, but, as you can see, that didn’t deter us from finishing them off properly!
That was our weekend in a nutshell. Hope everybody’s week is off to a marvelous start!
