This past Easter was a wonderful one filled with quality family time and delicious food.
Shortly after the in-laws arrived Friday evening, we enjoyed boiled crawfish (second time in 2 weeks). These little guys were larger than the last batch, but not quite as spicy.
We slept late Saturday morning, joining my parents at their house for a mid-afternoon Easter dinner, since Mark’s parents had to drive home Sunday afternoon.
Dinner was delicious! As you can see on my plate, we enjoyed ham, potato salad, cucumber salad, sautéed asparagus, baked beans, and crescent rolls. Dessert included plenty of coffee along with apple pie and pineapple cake (easiest recipe ever: 1 cake mix and 1 can crushed pineapple).
We enjoyed walking outside with Sandy, their pup, since the weather was perfectly cool and breezy.
Sunday morning we headed over to St. Joseph Chapel, one of my favorite places (the church is the centerpiece of my alma mater’s campus and is also where Mark and I—and so many other couples in our circle of friends—were married).
Mass was nice, and it felt like a Spring Hill reunion since some other alumni were in town.
We decided to revisit Kitchen on George for brunch. Our food was delicious, but the service wasn’t awesome. (I’d call it a bit scatter-brained, I guess.)
The Bloody Mary was definitely fresh, and it had the perfect spicy kick to it!
For my meal, I ordered the misoyaki glazed salmon and summer rolls. The salmon was out of this world—and while the rice noodle rolls were full of crisp veggies and included a fantastic peanut-hoisin sauce, they stuck together on the plate and fell apart after the first bite, rendering them incredibly difficult to eat!
The goat cheese salad (no photo), omelet (no photo), shrimp and grits, crab cakes, and spinach sauté looked amazing, as well.
Post-brunch, we said farewell to the in-laws and decided to buy some garden supplies. I planted some rosemary, Thai basil, cinnamon basil, flat-leaf parsley, and mint while Mark tackled our insane weed invasion!
And of course we picked up some essentials before they disappear from the shelves. 🙂
Once the rain began to fall, we settled in for brinner (always a winner!): scrambled eggs, blueberry pancakes, and mimosas.
Happy WIAW, everyone. Don’t forget to enter my SlimKicker Giveaway for a chance to win a digital food scale! It’s open until Sunday, April 7.

For some reason, bloody marys creep me out. Tomato juice and alcohol? But I have to give it a try one day… right? Also, crawfish—NICE.

Ha, I guess they are kind of strange, esp. if you’re used to sweet drinks (as I am). I think my love of spicy, tomato-y foods helps, too! 🙂

Yum, all of your eats look great. I’m a big grits fan and I’ve always wanted to have crawfish but am vowing not to try them until I travel to NOLA. Southern girl at heart haha

Thanks! I’ve never had crawfish outside of the Gulf South, so I can’t say if they’re tasty, but I think you’re smart to wait! Gotta do it right. 🙂
