This past weekend was absolutely beautiful—and it was our very first 5K!
Bright and early Saturday morning, Mark and I downed spinach/fruit smoothies and drove to the fairgrounds for Color Me Rad.
There were tons of people there! We ran the 9:20 wave, which began right on time.
Though we didn’t run the entire way, we did jog a good bit of the course and finished in approximately 35 minutes. We kept track even though the race wasn’t timed, and I think our 11.3-minute mile average wasn’t bad at all!
Before…
…and after.
We had a blast—purple snot and all (eww!).
Mark was dreading the race all week since we did very little preparation, but he had a great time, too. Told you so…
In true coastal Alabama style, there was even a bit of fish throwing on stage (the hosts of the race had never heard of our infamous Mullet Toss, so they held an impromptu version).
I’m contemplating signing up for the similar Color Run in Orange Beach next month—and the Tunnel Vision 5K that benefits the Lions Club (although running through the decades-old Bankhead Tunnel makes me nervous).
I’ve always thought runners were insane—but now I’m hooked!
After refueling with some Panera Bread and cleaning up, we relaxed around the house before driving downtown for some dinner (for what else?—a mixed grill and hummus from the Mediterranean Sandwich Co.) and The Music of Queen symphony/concert.
The show was fantastic, and I thought the singer played a pretty convincing Freddie Mercury. He had a great personality and really engaged the crowd. The orchestra and band were fabulous, too.
Now it’s the work week. At least we have our 5th anniversary to look forward to this upcoming weekend! We’ve already booked reservations for NoJa, and I can’t wait to try it for ourselves. Happy Tuesday, blog world.
