A little scared of this post’s title? You should be.
As of Monday night, I’ve survived 2 Bikram yoga classes!
Oh. My. God.
I knew it was going to be intense, but I had no idea I would leave feeling as if I’d been mugged, beaten, run-over, and dragged down the street…and ready to do it all over again the next day!
On a whim, really, I decided to purchase a full month (beginner’s discount) before my first lesson.
I showed up Sunday morning for the 10:00 class. Since it was Mother’s Day, there were only 12 or so people there. I felt welcomed immediately when it was announced I was taking my first class, and while I had difficulty with almost every posture—and had to sit out the trikanasana (triangle pose) completely for fear of passing out and/or throwing up!—I think I did pretty well for a beginner.
Monday night was much better! This time, there were over 40 people in the room. I felt far less self-conscious, and I really focused and tried to concentrate only on myself since I knew the postures. I’ve never dripped so much sweat in my life–but I’m proud to say that after 90 minutes of 105° heat, I didn’t have to rest once!
Two classes in…and I’m hooked! It sound so cheesy, but it really is enlightening. Plus it’s some incredibly intense cardio. The only downfall was the sheer amount of energy I had after the class (and lack of appetite). Finishing up at 8:30, it doesn’t give me much time to wind down.

I’m planning to go back either tomorrow night or Thursday, and I really can’t wait to see reduced anxiety and stress!

Bikram has become my new obsession – I literally crave going to class.
You get a lot more used to it as time goes on – I recommend drinking a ton of water during the day before you go to class and also alot after — that makes the recovery feel a lot better.
Congrats on the new experience!

I know what you mean about craving it…even w/ just 2 classes, my body can’t wait to go back!
Luckily I already drink tons of water during work, but Monday I drank a whole 32 oz more & think it helped. Going to do the same today!

Glad it’s been a good experience! I just went for the first time today and it was definitely pretty overwhelming! Had to modify a lot but definitely keeping it as an option 🙂

Oh yeah, I had to modify a lot, too! Survival was my goal for the first class. It’s still super challenging, but the 2nd class was a bit easier. Now I’m heading to my 4th. Just attempting each posture is an accomplishment…congrats on your 1st experience!
