It’s already Wednesday, but I’m still feeling the “end of the long weekend blues.” Our visit to Mississippi with Mama and Papa Miele ended far too quickly, but we had a great time.
Like an idiot, I took zero pictures of the new house, which, for privacy’s sake, is probably a good thing.
We left bright and early (8:15) Thursday morning and arrived at the new house just before noon. After unloading the car, we went to lunch at one of my favorite spots, Corner Bakery Café.
I wish we had this chain in Mobile. It’s very similar to Panera Bread, but the sandwiches and salads are a bit more creative. I had the chopped salad with romaine, green onions, avocado, bacon, chicken, bleu cheese, and vinaigrette. Yum!
Lunch wouldn’t have been complete without fro-yo at Berry Berry Good. I had the plain tart, mango, and strawberry yogurt topped with fresh mango and strawberries!
While the men ran some errands and picked up food for dinner, we ladies unpacked some boxes and organized the bathrooms (one of which is now dubbed “the pharmacy”).
For dinner, we had Greek salad and a portobello, garlic, and caramelized onion pizza from Soulshine Pizza Factory. It was delicious.
Friday we slept in for a bit. While the men were at Lowe’s and buying groceries, I read a little, enjoyed the lovely backyard deck, cuddled with the doggies, and unpacked boxes full of pictures.
That afternoon, Mama Miele treated herself and me to a pedicure. I love the color I chose—OPI Dutch Tulips (I think). The guys doing the pedi were hilarious!
Papa Miele grilled his should-be-famous barbecue chicken, and we had a delicious feast for dinner that included steamed corn, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, and smoked sausage. We enjoyed the backyard deck some more, too.
We slept in again Saturday morning before heading out to see The Hangover III. We’ve seen the first 2 together, so it’s now tradition. The movie was hilarious—although I was horrified in only the first few minutes.
After the movie, we were treated to an amazing dinner at Ely’s (review to come) in Ridgeland. There was so. much. food. (And every morsel was delicious.)
Like they always do, Sunday morning arrived too quickly. Before heading back, we went to brunch at Another Broken Egg (so excited they’re opening a location in Fairhope soon!). I’ve never eaten there, but I was impressed. My sweet potato pancake (topped with whipped cream, syrup, and spicy Cajun pecans—which really worked well with the sweetness, I must say) was fabulous; I can’t wait to create my own version at home!
We visited a few shops (bought an amazing citrus verbena body “sorbet” from l’Occitane and dreamed about being able to afford this adorable dress from Brooks Brothers) before loading up the car and driving back home.
Luckily our drive was pretty easy—till we hit a few minutes of heavy rain just before Mobile. Not feeling like cooking (and having an empty refrigerator and cupboards), we picked up Mellow Mushroom pizza, sipped some wine, and relaxed while watching Mad Men.
Happy What I Ate Wednesday. Having to work a 5-day week again is for the birds…but hopefully next week I’ll have some “sensible snacks” to share.
