In an effort to try something new this past Saturday, we decided to give Rosie’s Grill in Daphne a go.
We’ve passed by many times, and I’ve heard from a few friends that the food is good. For whatever reason (location, maybe, since it sits off the street in a strip mall), it always slipped under our radar.
With a modest, but clean, interior and bar, Rosie’s is pretty simple. The food, however, makes the big impression (as it should).

The menu is full of sandwiches, burgers, tacos, fajitas, and quesadillas, with a few seafood plates at dinner time. Though we didn’t try them, Rosie’s prepares their tortilla chips in-house, and they have a range of dips (queso, salsa, guacamole, etc.).
Having a hankering for Mexican food, Mark chose the chipotle chicken tacos; I knew before we arrived that I wanted to try the fish tacos, so my decision was easy.
My lunch special (2 grilled mahi tacos with a side of black beans/rice) was a very reasonable $8.95. Mark opted for 3 tacos (also with beans/rice), which added a dollar.
The mahi was fresh—and not overly seasoned! The fish can be ordered blackened (for an additional $1), but I found the grilled fish to be fine on its own (not too salty, which is how I find most blackened seafood around here). The pineapple salsa added a nice, tropical flavor, and the lettuce, jack cheese, and creamy sauce rounded the taco perfectly.
Though the black beans themselves were a bit bland, the rice was flavorful (if not a little too al dente); since I didn’t want to detract from the taco’s flavor, I poured my side of salsa onto the beans/rice, which added just enough spice and flavor.
Mark really enjoyed his tacos, too. The chipotle chicken was flavorful, and the pico de gallo topping looked fresh and delicious.
We’ll definitely eat here again. “The Californian” (portobello burger) caught my eye, and I’m curious about their house-made chips and guacamole. Hats off to Rosie’s for using fresh ingredients and keeping prices affordable.
