If you recall the week before last’s WIAW, you’ll know we’re attempting to cut back on our grocery spending.
Well, this weekend’s haul was a pricy one (though it did include dog food for Iggy, toilet paper, and several bottles of wine—none of which are weekly purchases), but we did make some reasonable choices I thought I’d share.
I often buy store brands anyway, but Publix brand bagged salad mixes were BOGO, so I grabbed some of their mixed greens (savings of $2.49).
We’re running low on olive oil, so we decided to grab 2 bottles of Pompeian, which was 2/$6.59 (savings of $6.58). Since we use it almost exclusively for cooking (sautéing, roasting, etc.) rather than dressings or dips, we aren’t too picky on the brand.
I resisted buying blueberries and/or strawberries and opted for raspberries since they were 2/$5.00 (savings of $2.50).
The foodie in me couldn’t resist snagging a carton of fresh Black Mission figs, but I don’t feel too guilty since they were 2/$5.99 (savings of $2.99).
We noticed several wine promotions, so while we picked up our usual McWilliams (our favorite), we chose a couple bottles in the $5-7 range to see how they compared. We were pleasantly surprised by the CK by Mondavi ($5.25, with $1.74 discount), which tasted very similar to the $10 Robert Mondavi line we normally buy. I guess budgeting’s not so bad!
With a few other minor discounts, we ended up saving $15.59, which is better than nothing. I’m going to start checking out some couponing websites when I have some free time.
Anyway, time to move on to yesterday’s meals.
Breakfast: Greek yogurt bowl with fresh figs and raspberries, whole almonds, cinnamon, and cereal and a mug of coffee (recycled photo)
Lunch: Chicken sandwich on whole wheat (with mixed greens, spicy mustard, and cheese) and a few Wheat Thins crisps
Snack: Herbal tea and a cucidata (Italian fig cookie) from Brocato’s and a (not pictured) banana
Dinner: Leftover brisket (smoked by my awesome father and leftover from Mark’s birthday dinner), baked beans, and sliced tomato
Dessert: Leftover “sinfully white” birthday cake from The Fresh Market
Happy Wednesday, blog world.

I’ve started buying large Greek yogurt, too. Every little choice adds up; now I just need to buy other stuff in bulk.
