1. I pretty much broke my own rules for dealing with tropical weather this past weekend since TS/TD Karen ended up fizzling out. We had approximately 2 minutes of rain Saturday afternoon, so we went to lunch, the mall, and the movies to see Gravity. Although it did rain most of the day Sunday, it was like an ordinary rain shower. I am ecstatic, though, that Karen did result in some beautiful, clear, crisp fall weather. Yesterday and this morning were absolutely gorgeous!
2. My newest fall food obsession is the adorable sweet dumpling squash. For dinner last night, we roasted one with a little olive oil, salt, and pepper and tossed it with green beans and farro, topped with Dijon-balsamic vinaigrette (similar to this recipe). Yum!
3. Even though we’re only 2 episodes in, I’m just not feeling this season of Homeland. While Claire Danes does a great job of making ugly faces and reminding my husband of his clients (her character is severely bipolar), I just don’t see where the show can take her without being completely unrealistic (Oh, you lied about mental illness, have been committed several times, and refuse to take your meds? Sure, come back to the CIA, no problem.). Hopefully it gets better; the writers have a way of surprising me, so I’ll just wait and see.
4. Since I’m obsessed with all things coconut lately, I really need to try Gena’s homemade coconut milk. It looks deliciously creamy, and even though I have no problem with good old 2% dairy, this sounds perfect.
5. I’m beginning to think I will always “suffer” from ill-fitting pants. I already struggle to find a size that fits, but even when I do find the perfect pair in the store, it never fails that they’re sagging off my waist by lunchtime. Why does everything have to be stretchy? I’m going to sell my soul to a seamstress who can hand-sew me pants!
6. I want to live in the 1950s and early 1960s. Scratch that. I want to dress as if I lived in the 1950s. My favorite part of the new Showtime show, Masters of Sex, is the gorgeous party dresses!
7. Twinings Pumpkin Spice Chai = a huge disappointment. It’s apparent I love pumpkin, just not artificial pumpkin flavor. Oh well, you live and learn.
8. However, Cascadian Farm Dark Chocolate Almond Granola = a delicious new favorite. Who else thinks all breakfasts should include chocolate?
9. I love penguins—especially awkward ones. So cute! Waddle, waddle…
10. I’m super excited about doing sunset yoga at Bayfront Park tomorrow evening. I’m always envious of the folks who live on the Eastern Shore because they see the beautiful sunsets over the Bay while we miss out. Practicing yoga alongside Mother Nature is bound to be an awesome experience.
