1. I’m super proud of the hubby. Last week he gave a guest lecture for an Intro to Sociology class at our beautiful alma mater, Spring Hill College. Sexy and smart—I’m a lucky lady!
2. If my grandfather (Papa) were still alive, today would be his 96th birthday. I truly hope I’ve inherited his good health and energy, because at age 90—shortly before he passed away—he was still playing golf (and working at the course) like it was nothing. Maybe he should’ve written a healthy living blog. 😉
3. Is it just me, or do any of you other bloggers feel completely inept at social media? I gave into peer pressure and joined Twitter several months ago, but I still have no idea how to use it. It feels utterly ridiculous to tweet (and use the word “tweet”—isn’t that what birds do?) complete nonsense and use hashtags, but it is a good way to promote the blog and gain new readers. (Please watch this video if you live under a rock and haven’t seen it yet!) I do find Instagram to be a valuable tool for dealing with boredom, but I rarely share any of my blog posts on my personal Facebook account. I feel like my real-life friends and family couldn’t care less about what I ate when. (See what I did there with those links? Shameless self-promotion: I might as well throw in a Follow me on Bloglovin’ and Check out my Pinterest as well.)
4. This past Saturday, Mark and I ran The Color Run. I enjoyed this one better than Color Me Rad. The course went through downtown, whereas the other was at the fairgrounds, so it was much more scenic. Plus the colors were prettier (and more difficult to wash off!).
5. Speaking of The Color Run, I really hope my stuffy/runny nose is due to accidental inhalation of corn starch because I absolutely refuse to get sick! Why would I get sick in October when my immune system never lets me down and I’ve been taking probiotics + a multi-vitamin, eating (mostly) well, and practicing yoga? I just can’t handle having a cold or sinus infection; it actually makes me angry! Hopefully my morning concoction of apple cider vinegar, local honey, and hot water does the trick.
6. I’d really like to do something for Halloween this year, but it’s a work night (yeah, I’m really that old) and I have no ideas for a cheap costume. There’s a special performance of The Rocky Horror Show at Mobile Theatre Guild that might be fun, and then there’s also a showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Crescent Theater (at 10:30, which is basically my bedtime!). Maybe I’ll just eat chocolate and drink wine with Mark and Iggy while watching a scary movie?
7. I’m thinking of sharing a recipe for the Virtual Vegan Potluck again. It’s November 16th—you all should check it out and join in on the action! This time I’m leaning toward an appetizer or entrée. Dessert was fun (and I actually have a dessert in mind that uses my chia pudding as a component), but I want to try something different this time. We shall see.
8. This is the most beautiful salad I’ve seen in a while. Love the acorn squash, love the avocado, and especially love the pomegranate arils!
9. I can’t believe it’s mid-October and our herb garden is still alive. Usually by August, the herbs are baked to a crisp (especially the basil), but with the slightly milder summer temperatures and abundance of rain, they’ve actually held on. The chives came in quite handy for a porcini mushroom risotto I plan to share with you soon.
10. Are there any other McIntosh apple “virgins” out there? I can’t recall ever trying one until this past Sunday, after grabbing a couple at Publix, where they were on sale. The flesh is incredibly white and pleasantly tart, and the texture is much smoother than a standard Red Delicious (which tastes more like wet sawdust than fruit). I hope they’re around next grocery trip so I can stock up.
Well, that’s all I have for today. Happy Tuesday, friends!

McIntosh apples are my favourite! But they grow like weeds around Toronto so they’re always available!
Teach me how to NOT kill my herb garden. All of my herbs died within a month except for the rosemary. Total fail 🙁

That’s good to know about McIntosh apples–if I’m ever in Toronto, I’ll know to look for them. 🙂
You know, I think my herb garden has lived to spite me. I was ready to throw in the towel, just assuming they were all dead, but they kept coming back. I guess I’ll make the best of it and harvest while I can.
