1. It’s a short week! I refuse to let work stress me out these 3 work days (even if I did have a few “moments” Monday morning). I’m keeping my eyes on the prize (prize = turkey in my belly).
2. It looks like Christmas exploded on our lawn and in our house. As promised, I let Mark hang the lights and decorate the yard (like he needed “permission”). The stockings are hanging on the pint glass cabinet (wait, you mean not everybody has one of those?), the bar is decorated, and come Friday, the tree will be up.
3. I’m ecstatic that the weather is going to be C-H-I-L-L-Y the next few days. Flannel PJs, hot coffee/cider/cocoa/what have you, and Thanksgiving/Christmas paraphernalia—it’s perfect!
4. I really enjoyed watching Catching Fire this weekend! I love how it brought more of the emotions into the movie—and even though I read the book, I still was on the edge of my seat. It was much better than the first movie, in my opinion.
6. I also enjoyed the food and entertainment at the Mobile International Festival Saturday afternoon. Since we’re too poor to travel abroad for real, this was the next best thing. We sampled samosas and a mango lassi from India, stuffed grape leaves from Iran, some sugared donut-type dessert from Laos, a tamale from Panama, a spring roll from Vietnam, and a crab rangoon from Indonesia. Quite the epicurean feast, if I do say so!
7. Apparently I no longer know how to bake (or maybe I can only bake when I’m really in the mood for it). This makes me sad… 🙁
8. But finally deciding on my Thanksgiving dish (shredded Brussels sprouts and kale salad with pomegranate arils, pistachios, and a citrus vinaigrette) makes me happy! 🙂 I probably won’t share the recipe till after Thanksgiving, but have no fear, it’s perfect for Christmas (or any night’s) dinner, too.
9. Just now I was distraught over my baking failure/not having any witty or interesting thoughts to share until I realized “we still have pumpkin cupcake and chocolate cake in the fridge!” Seriously, that’s all it took to put a smile on my face.
10. To end on a funny note: here are 7 Things No One Wants To Hear During The Holidays. Luckily we only mingle with the immediate family on Thanksgiving, so I don’t have to worry about most of these. Christmas, however, is another story!
Have a great Tuesday, folks!
