Wow—this weekend flew by! At least it was a good one—with perfect, sunny weather and surviving my first 10K. ☺
Early Saturday morning, Mark and Baby M watched me complete my longest run to date (and first competitive run since last April when I was in my first trimester!) downtown in the Azalea Trail Run.
I met up with my friend Jessica (whom I’ve known since birth) and her husband. Let me tell you, having somebody to run with is so much more fun and motivating than running solo. (I just wish I had somebody to run with in my neighborhood.)
It was freezing when we started, but it quickly warmed up once we got going. We paced ourselves, running for 3 minutes and walking for 1.5. We kept this up till the very end where we almost ran that last solid 1.2 miles without stopping.
I’m so glad we did the pacing because I guarantee that, while I would’ve started out running faster, I would’ve worn myself out half-way through and felt miserable the rest of the race. If I only I could be so smart on my own!
I finished 1:19:52, which was a 12:51 per mile pace (I’m going by my chip time, not the “official” time). It wasn’t super speedy, but I’m proud (last year’s 5K time was 34:25). Plus, we actually finished faster and stronger than we started, and at least we caught up to one of those darn race-walkers! ☺
I’m sooooo sore but not as bad as I thought I’d be. I’m hoping I feel like running again mid-week or at least by the weekend. Of course I’m already thinking about doing the 8K By The Bay (April 11) that I did last year. It’s an easy, flat run and kind of pretty when you actually see the water. We’ll see how it goes.
As for now, I’m hoping this week goes by quickly. My in-laws are coming to stay with us for Easter, and I’m so excited to dress Baby M in his seersucker suit that Aunt Sarah and Uncle Leo gave him a while back—hopefully it still fits!
Have a lovely week!
