So, my hometown is kind of infamous. For a leprechaun.
Yep, you read that right.
Many years ago, an actual news station aired a video of a local man, probably high, who claimed to have seen a leprechaun hiding in a tree. The segment went viral on YouTube and it was even featured on Tosh.0.
The video is a little racist and fuels stereotype (which is why I’m not linking to it) but every St. Paddy’s Day, it makes the obligatory rounds on Facebook. The rendering of the “suspect” has even become an unofficial mascot around the city. It still cracks me up!
Anyway, I really want to try this majestically colorful and fabulous “unicorn bait” cookie, but since I am lazy and in need of a crunchy snack to keep in my desk drawer at work, I thought I’d cash in on St. Patrick’s Day and create (ok, assemble!) a magical little bag of leprechaun bait.
There’s some green (of course), some crunch, some healthy fats, some fruit, some chocolate (because we all know the best part of trail mix is the chocolate, duh?), and, finally, some Lucky Charms cereal—because everybody needs a little colorful, sugary styrofoam in their lives!).
Leprechaun Bait
Ingredients*
- 1 cup green M&Ms (or similar candies)
- 1 cup Lucky Charms cereal
- 1 cup cashews
- 1 cup almonds
- 1 cup dried cranberries or raisins
Directions
- Pour all of your ingredients into a bag or jar, and mix ‘em up. Keep at your desk or pack in your lunches for snacking.
*Measurements are approximate; I actually forgot to add the almonds to mine, oops!
Happy snacking! And may have the greatest success finding your own pot of gold.

OMG thank you for reminding me of that hilarious video!! My friends and I joked about it for months.”Coulda been a crack head….”
I honestly never thought of it being racist because I just thought it was funny, but yeah, you’re right. I hope the guy is getting lots of love!

Oh I still think it’s hilarious – I don’t think it’s inherently racist but it’s definitely un-PC & kinda fuels stereotype in the South. So…that’s me trying not to offend anybody or get criticism 😉
