Hey guys! I always feel petty diving into a cheerful intro after a tragedy like what happened in Orlando this weekend. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims’ loved ones.
I hope your Monday is treating you well. I’m looking forward to this week because both Mark and I are taking off work Friday. Hooray for a 4-day work week!
This weekend was a mix of activity and staying around the house. Saturday I skipped the gym and we went down to the dragon boat show at Battleship Park. There were food trucks, a petting zoo for the kids, and of course the races.
Mark took Bazooka into the petting zoo and it took a little while before the little guy showed any interest. We watched a few races and had some food from Von’s (I had the banh mi and Mark had the lettuce wraps) before we were just too hot to really enjoy ourselves.
Sunday I ran a few errands and we grilled out in the backyard for dinner (burgers!).
Anyway, I thought I’d take a look at what else I’m currently up to this month.
Reading // The Hypnotist’s Love Story by Liane Moriarty. I’ve just started, and so far it’s fine. Earlier this month I read Emma Donoghue’s Room. Wow. It was dark and disturbing, but it was great read.
Watching // The Tony’s!!! I wish we had been quick enough to take a picture, but during the opening, Bazooka was dancing like a fool. Guess he likes musical theatre? 😉
Listening to // Serial! I’m so late to the game, but now that I’m about half-way through the first season, I’m hooked.
Needing // To get over this cough of mine! I think I’m slowly but surely getting better. I feel great otherwise.
Loving // My sweet little family. Bazooka is still ridiculously clingy lately, but he just makes me smile everyday. And Mark’s not so bad either. 😉
Mark and Bazooka at the petting zoo this weekend!
Not Loving // How crappy our vacuum cleaner is. Mark vacuumed yesterday and earlier today after a stemless wine glass was knocked off the counter by the dog’s bone (it bounced), and you can’t even tell.
Eating // Nothing at the moment, but I did buy some trail mix at Target earlier that I’m sure I will consume much too quickly.
Drinking // Red wine + lots of water. I’m not sure why, but I’ve been slacking on my water consumption lately.
Craving // Some gelato or good ice cream. A trip to Old Dutch would be nice!
This avocado lime popsicle was good, but it ain’t gelato!
Avoiding // A haircut. But I still need one.
Happy about // Life in general. It’s not perfect, but I have a lot to be happy about.
Looking forward to // A trip to visit the in-laws soon! It’s time to get out of the house and go on a little road trip.
Annnnd…that’s it! I’ll be around later this week.
So tell me…
- What are you currently (pick a category—or a few)?
- What’s your favorite popsicle flavor?
- Have you ever been to a dragon boat race?

I have three days off this week too! I’m excited for this shorter week. I first thought I would take a day trip, but I actually want to spend some time at home and in my town enjoying it.
Have a great week!

Yay for short weeks! Hope you enjoy your long weekend around town 🙂

I got this trail mix from whole foods that i have been loving so much! I hope you get over your cough ASAP! That’s never fun. I am glad life is going well for you too Catherine. It will never be perfect, but there really is so much to smile about! And I Hope you get some ice cream or gelato soon- that is a summer must! Happy Monday!
Catherine says
Trail mix is my drug of choice, haha. Thanks for the well wishes – my cough is almost gone!

Im also currently avoiding a haircut! It’s been waaaay too long! I love fudgesicles (no idea how to spell that haha!)
Catherine says
I think that’s how you spell them 😉 They were always my favorite growing up!

It looks like you had a lovely weekend! When it comes to any frozen treat, I almost ALWAYS go for chocolate!
I’ve seen one dragon boat race before on Sydney Harbour! They take serious strength to move so fast!
Catherine says
I bet the race at Sydney Harbor was impressive (and definitely a place I want to visit one day)! And I’m also team chocolate all the way. 😉

I also felt weird posting today after the Orlando thing. I’ve just been not really using social media since the event because it makes me feel like pictures of my morning latte or anything going on in my life just aren’t as important as what happened.
I am also avoiding a haircut, but I always wait months and months in between. I just don’t keep up on it at all! Oops.
Catherine says
I’ve avoided mentioning much about it on social media in general too. I guess eventually you’ll have to find a hairdresser in Hawaii!

So many things on here I love! I just finished Room too… it was a great read and I really appreciated the way the author was able to do so well writing from a 5 year old’s perspective. Serial is THE reason I got into running. I listened to the first season and was actually excited to get out and go run so I could listen to the next one.
Catherine says
Yes! At first I thought the 5 y.o. voice was weird but she did a great job! I’m actually watching a follow up to the Adnan Syed case on some crime tv channel. I’m still obsessed with the story!
Brie @ A Slice of Brie says
I read Room several years ago and really liked it, and then I watched the movie a few months ago and bawled like a baby. The acting was SO good in it, but I couldn’t stop thinking about the movie for weeks afterwards 🙁 I was late to the game with Serial too, but really liked it! I haven’t listened to the second season though…not sure if I will. I’m not really a fan of popsicles! I prefer freezies or slushes lol. Although, every year I say this is the year I’m going to make homemade popsicles, and then I never do haha.
Catherine says
Yes! I want to see the movie because I’ve heard the acting is fantastic. That would be such a tough role!
Ooh, I like a good slushie, too. And I’ve said the same about making popsicles, too. Haha.
