Hey guys! I’m coming at you late today, but I really wanted to get back into a little groove before taking some time away over the weekend.
This week started off really nice. On our drive home Sunday, Bazooka was AN ANGEL. He napped in his car seat for a couple hours and even when he woke up, he was so quiet and calm. Sure, he whined a little bit, but he just seemed content to watch the fascinating landscape of southern Mississippi go by.
Anyway, instead of being dog-tired Monday morning, I actually began the work week feeling refreshed and energized. Toward the end of the week, though, things got a little out of whack (hence my ramblings yesterday). It’s been an emotional couple of days (and not because of a silly flash drive—which was found by the husband shortly after I wrote that post, woot!), but things are looking up.
Anyway, I don’t have a whole lot of pictures for you, but we can at least take a look at some of the highs and lows from this past week.
Top 3 Eats
Brunch at The Fairview Inn // I’m normally not a fan of buffets, but this one was on point. Before driving home from the in-laws’, we enjoyed Father’s Day brunch at this historic B&B. The menu that day was casserole-heavy, but like any good southerner, I ate my fair share. This plate included quiche, fried okra, tomato casserole (OMG!), broccoli casserole, sautéed zucchini & squash, sweet potato soufflé, and baked salmon. I also had a piece of Belgian waffle (that Bazooka wouldn’t even try!), some kind of corn salad, cantaloupe/honeydew, a shared crème brule, and bites of Bazooka’s ice cream (that he also wouldn’t eat). All of this was topped off with mimosas and coffee…and then I couldn’t eat for a week (just kidding).
Salmon & Brie Salad at Kitchen on George // On Wednesday a supplier took my coworkers and me to lunch, and I thoroughly enjoyed a salad which included grilled salmon, melty brie, mixed greens, dried cherries, candied pecans and walnuts, thinly sliced pear, and a champagne vinaigrette. For obvious reasons, I didn’t take a picture. 😉
Smoothies Galore // Usually I like variety with my breakfasts, but I guess the heat had me craving smoothies. Two days I blended mixed berries, banana, peanut butter, flax, orange juice, milk, and vanilla protein powder, but today I enjoyed a simple PB Cup smoothie (banana, oats, chocolate protein powder, and milk).
Recycled photo from last week—but you get the idea!
Top 3 Lows
A very tense shoulders and neck // I’ve said it a million times, but I really need to schedule my massage (using the gift card I’ve had since February).
Crazy emotions // I’ve been an emotional wreck the last couple of days. I’m working on it.
Letting our house get out of control // We still really need to clean. I’ve decided to move in baby steps; this weekend, we’re deep cleaning the kitchen and dining area. The goal: not to overwhelm ourselves!
Top 3 Highs
Our weekend trip // We enjoyed getting away a few days and spending time with family we don’t see often.
A sleeping, angelic baby!
My cough is gone!!! // No longer do I sound like lung cancer patient—hooray!
Finding a groove at work // Last week, I was a bit overwhelmed trying to organize myself and prioritize my job duties, but now I think I’ve figured out a nice little system (for now, at least).

Gah I’m sorry you’re feeling emotional/overwhelmed lately. I can obviously relate. What is it about life right now!??! I kind of feel like all my close friends are feeling like this and it comes in waves for everyone. So odd.
Yay for finding the flash drive! I literally cannot wait to make smoothies again. Those sound so good and I haven’t had anything but a crappy store bought Naked juice in two months!

I know you’ve got to be excited to get into your house – I think you’ve done a great job handing the uncertainty and big move. I think being emotional is just part of the season of life we’re in. Toddlers are stressful, lol. 🙂

I’m sorry to hear you haven’t been feeling so fabulous lately! Sending huge hugs and prayers your way, girl! <3 xo
And I am SO glad you found that flash drive!
Catherine says
Thanks Kristy! <3 Thankfully I'm feeling better.

Okay, a brunch that has fried okra is a-OK in my book. I also love tomato casserole. I need to make one soon.Bazooka would’ve been so surprised by how much he liked those things he wouldn’t try, haha.
I hope that this weekend is restful and you’re able to find some peace!
Catherine says
I can’t believe so many people know about tomato casserole. This was the first time I’d tried it and now I’m obsessed!
You’re so right about bazooka – he has no clue how much he’s missing. 😉

Finding a groove at work must be so nice… It’s always hard for me after we get back from vacation to get back into the groove. And I’m so sorry that your emotions are all over the place; the life of being a woman, and I’m praying for encouragement and peace for you. That brunch looks AMAZING. And to encourage you, the fact that Bazooka doesn’t like trying new foods; I was exactly like that when I was younger till I was about 16 or 17. Now I like eating pretty much anything.
Catherine says
Thank you, Emily. Ugh, I was picky, too (so was my husband), so I guess we’re just dealing with what’s due to us. 🙂

I’m glad you’re cough is gone and you had a nice get-a-way 🙂 Have a great weekend!
Catherine says
Thanks Ellie! Hope you had a nice weekend too!
Lyss says
Sorry that you aren’t feeling too great lately Catherine. I always tell myself that this too shall pass. Cliche, I know- but every touch and emotional time in our life does pass and we learn so much from challenging times. I’m so happy your cough went away too. Also been loving all the smoothies, smoothie bowls, and acai bowls. This heat has me craving cool stuff! Have a lovely rest of your weekend!
Catherine says
Thanks Lyss. The thing about cliches is they’re really true – I try to tell myself the same.
On a different note, I’ve actually never had an available bowl! Need to change that.
Ellen says
I hope you start feeling better – I know the whole “emotional wreck” feeling all too well and it’s no fun. But yay for finding a groove at work! That’s always a satisfying feeling.
Catherine says
Thanks, Ellen. Today was a rough day, but on the whole, I’m feeling better. <3

Sending hugs ❤️
