Hey, friends! I hope you had a fun-filled, relaxing, and safe weekend.
Ours was low-key. My parents watched Bazooka while Mark and I went to lunch and a movie on Saturday, and Sunday was spent doing our normal “chores,” prepping for the week, and trying to convince Bazooka to take a dip his little swimming pool. (He wouldn’t, but mama enjoyed lying in it for a few minutes before it clouded up).
It’s already more than half-way through July, so let’s look at my current happenings.
Currently // July 2016
Reading // Another WWII fiction book, The Nightingale (←affiliate link) by Kristin Hannah. So far (I’m about half-way finished) I’m loving it. It’s completely captivated me, and I know it’s going to be even more of an emotional ride toward the end.
Watching // The news, specifically coverage of the latest shooting in Baton Rouge, LA. So dismaying…
Listening to // I’m still digging podcasts lately, such as Mind Body Musings, Invisibilia, and This American Life.
Needing // To put away my laundry from the other night.
Loving // It took some time to “grow” on me (pun not intended), but my new haircut. I decided to have several inches hacked off, and while I immediately regretted the shorter length (this happens anytime I get a haircut…and then I forget about it), I now like it when I take time to add some beachy waves to it.
Not Loving // How sleep-deprived I’ve been feeling. Bazooka is going through another weird sleep pattern. Some nights he sleeps well, and other nights, he wakes up around 2 AM and ends up in our bed. This too shall pass…
Eating // Nothing at the moment, but this weekend we had lunch at a new (to us) restaurant near Fairhope Pier called Thyme By the Bay. I had the Korean BBQ sandwich + a side of truffle fries (shared with Mark, they were huge), and Mark had some kind of Mexican pulled pork sandwich with pico and an avocado puree + a Tuscan bread salad (with perfectly ripe tomatoes and cucumber). It was delicious, but a little pricey for lunch.
Drinking // An Abita Seersucker Summer Pilsner
Craving // SALADS. And anything light and cold. I’ve been eating too many refined carbs (bread; ALL THE TIME), and I just want some veggies.
Avoiding // Nothing…at least not deliberately or knowingly. I guess I am always avoiding cleaning/organizing, in some way or another.
Happy about // Our plan to take a little “staycation” one weekend. Mark gets a discount for certain hotels through his retirement plan with the state (typing “retirement” is the weirdest thing), so we’re going to get a hotel room at one of the hotels downtown and enjoy some relaxation, poolside lounging, and maybe a massage at the spa! This is all assuming my parents (or his) will watch the babe. 😉
Looking forward to // the Summer Olympics. I watched the trials for the gymnastics and some of the swimming and track, and now I’m just pumped to watch. I’m an Olympic junkie!
So tell me…
- What are you currently (pick a category—or a few)?
- What’s your favorite Olympic sport? Gymnastics (always) followed by diving and swimming.

I think you’re haircut fits you perfectly Catherine! I love the mind body musings podcasts- those are my fave! The gymnastics olympic trials were amazing. I can’t wait to watch the olympics!
Catherine says
Thank you! They were amazing – I think they have such a strong team!
I think I found that podcast because you’d mentioned it in a comment or on your blog. So…thanks! 🙂

I’m currently happy about having a day off today and the interview I have later. I just want to talk to this person! The Olympics are awesome! I love swimming, beach volleyball and gymnastics. This year however I am making the point to watch more running races. Hopefully I can stream it somewhere…
Your haircut is cute! I recently dyed my hair and it took a few days for me to get used to it.
Catherine says
Days off are SOOOO nice. I hope your interview went well. Oooh, beach volleyball, I forgot that I like to watch it, too. I’m sure there will be streaming.
Kate says
I’m so excited for the Olympics too! I’ve been following gymnastics and I think we’ve got a great team.
A staycation sounds like a great idea. Sometimes just getting out of the house is all it takes to feel revived.
Funny you mention laundry, I feel like laundry and dishes are always looming around!
Catherine says
Seriously, just a few hours or weekend away is wonderful. And, yes, laundry is always looming.

I’m so excited for the Olympics! I don’t remember ever getting that into it before, but I am this year 😀
And I seriously love your haircut! Totally fits you 🙂
Catherine says
Thank you ? I’ve watched the summer olympics since I was a kid 🙂

I’m so glad you’re enjoying The Nightingale! It’s one of the best books I’ve read this year. I cried for about the last 100 pages, so beware 😉
Your new haircut looks awesome!
I’m currently looking forward to my mom visiting on Thursday for a little while – we haven’t seen her since January and I’m excited to get some “me” time 🙂
Catherine says
Ahhhh, I just finished The Nightingale today. So many emotions! I wish the ending wasn’t so rushed – did you feel that way?
Hope you and your mom have a great time together.

Your hair looks so good! I always find I have an adjustment period whenever I get anything drastic done to my hair. Usually before I get it cut I’m like “yay new hair!”, then I get it done and I’m like “oh my gosh I hate it my life is over” when I try to wash it and style it the next day and then I forget about it 😛
Catherine says
Thanks, Kristy! Haha, that sounds about like my process with haircuts. In the end, though, it’s just hair. 🙂

You find the best eats Catherine… Can you tell I’m kind of a foodie cause I always comment on those? 😀
I love reading Currently posts, because getting to know the blogger is always my favorite part of reading blogs. I think your haircut is really pretty, and having a few inches off for summer is always really nice especially with the summer heat waves.
I really hope Bazooka starts sleeping better. And let us know how the staycation goes! I’ve always thought that a staycation would be a fun idea.
Catherine says
Haha, I wish I could get out and discover more eats – there are some blogs I practically stalk because of their food posts 😀
Thanks – the length is MUCH cooler and half the time to blow dry. Definitely a win!
