How are we more than half-way through October and I’m still wearing shorts and flip-flops on the weekends? I’m so ready for some real FALL weather.
So, how have you guys been? I haven’t been able to blog as much as I’d like (I have a few recipes and other posts in the works—just need some free time to get in the kitchen and take some pictures), and I’ve missed the “conversation” we have! Even if I’m not commenting often on your blogs, I am reading (and sharing when possible. Twitter is my go-to—follow me if you’re not already!). And every time I read a comment on one of my posts (particularly my last two), I appreciate it so much. <3 <3
I guess I’m trying to re-learn how to manage my time. Work is busy (and will likely be much busier and stressful the next few weeks), so I am trying to limit my screen time when I get home. Plus, it’s such an exciting time for our sweet Bazooka. He’s learning so much and growing up before our eyes. I love it.
Anyway, let’s think out loud on some of this month’s current happenings.
Currently // October 2016
Reading // The Girls* by Emma Cline. I’m not super into it, but I have to say the writing and phrasing is exquisite. Almost every description is so vivid, and Cline has a way of turning something completely ordinary into something beautiful. I definitely plan on finishing it, but it might be a while.
Watching // the final presidential debate…is it November yet? And how much are plane tickets to Canada?… 😉
Listening to // the #wycwyc podcast. I love Carla’s blog and never knew she had a podcast. Lucky for me, she recently brought it back and it’s helping to keep me entertained as I work.
Needing // some new tops for work. I’ve got summery shirts and sweaters but not much for in-between.
Loving // that Bazooka now says I LOVE YOU!!!!! He actually says I luzzzh you but it’s the sweetest sound ever. Not lying, I cried a little when he said it! <3 <3
Sweet, curious kiddo…
Not Loving // another cold or allergy attack. I don’t know what it is, but I’ll go a week or two with a stuffy/runny nose and sore throat, and then I’ll be fine for a few weeks before it resurfaces. Apart from not being able to breathe, I feel great!
Eating // ALL the leftovers. Bazooka’s birthday party was this past Saturday, so we have a lot of food and cake leftover. We’ve finished the gumbo, but are still working on the chicken salad, sausage, and cake.
Drinking // smoothies topped with Kind* granola. If it still feels like summer, I might as well eat breakfast like it’s summer, right? Smoothies never go out of style in my world. Right now my go-to combination is frozen zucchini, frozen banana, frozen blueberries, Greek yogurt, protein powder, and maybe some spinach plus almond milk and/or orange juice. Adding the granola has helped keep me full!
Old picture (and not actually Kind granola) but you get the idea…
Craving // a vacation. Like, a true relaxing vacation…a resort, Europe, somewhere to just exist and BE and soak up the world around me. Keep dreaming… 😉
Avoiding // meh, nothing really, although I do need to make an appointment and just haven’t gotten around to calling and setting it up. Typical.
Happy about // the upcoming holidays. I’m sad to miss Thanksgiving with my parents, but I’m excited to travel to visit the in-laws and Mark’s grandmother and uncle.
Basically I just want a reason to hang up these ornaments 😉
Looking forward to // a not-so-typical girls’ weekend at the beginning of November. While our husbands are celebrating a good friend’s bachelor party in New Orleans, I will be staying with some friends while we watch all the kiddos (2 7-month-old girls, a 3-year-old, and Bazooka!). It should be interesting!

- Does it feel like autumn where you live?
- What’s one thing you’re loving lately? Looking forward to? Avoiding?
Emily says
It’s starting to feel like Autumn; I’m so thankful for God’s tremendous blessing of a wonderful fall this year. The colors were beautiful, and there is definitely a chill in the air.
However Sunday was 81 degrees, and that means that smoothies and ice cream are still a regular here. I had a pumpkin pie smoothie yesterday. 🙂
OOh that girl’s weekend sounds wonderful! I hope you make some awesome memories.
Catherine says
A pumpkin pie smoothie sounds incredible! I wish we got to see changing leaves here, but we mostly have evergreen and pine trees. At least it was a little cooler this weekend, though. Have a great week, Emily!

Here in Charlotte, it’s been so warm lately. But I hear the temperatures will be cooling down this weekend, so I am thrilled! I am looking forward to the weekend and celebrating my friend’s baby shower. Have a great weekend!
Catherine says
Baby showers are so much fun – that sounds like a great weekend!
It finally cooled down here, too, this weekend. I just wish it would stay a while.

it was 80 in ma yesterday. I need some fall weather asap! Love that kind granola too. Perfect on yogurt or smoothies!
Catherine says
Yes, the granola is really good on smoothies and yogurt. And straight out of the bag, hehe.
It was actually cool this weekend, but of course it’s going to be 80+ this week. Ugh. Hope you get some fall weather soon too!

It is feeling like autumn around here, which means grey and drizzly hehe. I love autumn so much for many reasons, but I’m having a hard time getting used to how dark it is!!
I watched the debate last night and I just can’t even believe Trump is a real person. You can come stay with me in Canada if you need 😉 😉
Right now I’m loving my essential oil diffuser, I have it going every time I’m in my room <3
Catherine says
I need to use my EO diffuser more often – thanks for the reminder 😉
And I may have to take you up on that offer to stay in Canada, haha. Well, for my country’s sake, let’s hope I don’t have to.

It is spring where I live and boy does it feel like it! We have had all sorts of crazy weather. Sunny one minute, raining the next. I am currently looking forward to my birthday…but also not because that means exams will be happening too!
Catherine says
Sounds a lot like our spring!
Happy early birthday and good luck with your exams!
