This easy, healthy green matcha mint smoothie is the perfect, natural green beverage for St. Patrick’s Day. It’s alcohol-free, so you can enjoy it at breakfast or any time of the day!
Since I am trying to abstain from alcohol during Lent, I will not be partaking in any green beer this year.
Truth be told, I prefer my beer unadulterated (no green dye for me!), but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy naturally green foods and beverages.
Lucky for me (and you!), this green beverage is one you can drink ANY time of day because it’s alcohol-free and full of all the good, healthy things.
This smoothie is similar to one I made last year, except I omitted the protein powder for a more natural source of protein—Greek yogurt.
Protein powder has its place (my favorite is Sunwarrior), but I have long been a fan of bulking up my smoothies with less processed sources of protein.
Healthy Green Matcha Mint Smoothie
yields one small serving
Ingredients
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 1/4 frozen zucchini
- 1/3 cup plan, vanilla, or honey-flavored Greek yogurt
- 1 Tbsp matcha powder
- 1/4 tsp mint extract
- milk, to desired consistency
Directions
- Add all ingredients into a high speed blender. Blend until well-mixed and desired consistency is achieved.
- Pour in a glass and add any toppings you desire (I just drank mine the old-fashioned way). Enjoy!
Feel free to double the recipe if you’re craving a more meal-sized smoothie—this one is more like a snack or component to a larger breakfast.
A healthy, naturally-green beverage for St. Paddy's Day that you can enjoy ANY time of day! Share on XSo tell me…
- Do you have any Irish heritage. I have a little bit, but I’m mostly British, Scottish, Welsh, and German.
- Have you tried matcha before?
- Green beer—yay or nay?

YES! I’m an Irish Citizen actually, so I love celebrating St. Patty’s Day! 1/2 Irish gal in me!
Catherine says
That’s cool you’re an Irish citizen! Of course you have to celebrate then 🙂

Whoa frozen zucchini. I never would have guessed that for the green! I am a big fan of healthier shamrock shake type things!
Catherine says
You can’t even tell it’s there! It’s my go-to veggie if I’m not feeling spinach in my smoothies.
Alyssa says
Yum! sounds so good. And looks it too! I have never tried matcha!
Catherine says
Matcha on its own is just ok to me, but I love using it in smoothies! Next I want to try it in baked goods.
Patricia @Sweet and Strong says
Yes I’m Irish! I usually always make a corned beef and cabbage for the holiday. I have never tried matcha before but have been considering ordering some.
Catherine says
For some reason, I’m not a corned beef fan, but I love me some cabbage! 🙂

Such a fun recipe! I love that you added zucchini, it’s so unusual 🙂

Thanks, Tisha! Zucccini seems weird to add, but it’s not even noticeable.

Lovely! I never knew green beer was a thing! I used to enjoy shamrock shakes for st patricks day but then I realized what was in them. This looks like a yummier alternative! 😀
Catherine says
Thanks! The one and only time I drank green beer did NOT end well, haha. Can you believe I’ve never had a traditional shamrock shake?
Kat says
Pretty much full blown Irish over here! I’ve even got the silly middle name as proof [ O’Nell ] 🙂
I absolutely adore matcha powder! I’ve been adding it to alot of my smoothies lately. I can’t wait until the weather heats up just so I can have iced matcha teas all day long!
Catherine says
Yep! Your middle name is definitely Irish! 🙂
I have yet to make an iced matcha tea but that sounds so refreshing.
