Hey guys! I had no intention of skipping February’s “currently” post, but those short months tend to flyyyyy right by, don’t they? And here we are nearing the end of March!
I haven’t really had a whole lot on my mind lately, so I figured today was as good a day as any to give you guys a little life update and some more traditional thinking out loud.
Currently // March 2017
Reading // The Gifts of Imperfection* by Brené Brown. I have heard of Brown—mostly through the blog world—but this is the first of her books I’ve read. I kind of shy away from the “self-improvement” genre because I feel like they all say the same damn thing and make it seem like your single goal in life should be “happiness,” but I like what she has to say, particularly about shame and perfectionism, and owning the uncomfortable and ugly parts of yourself. I’ll probably finish this book before next week, and then I’ll start Sweetbitter* by Stephanie Danler, a random find at the library earlier this week.
Watching // Big Little Lies. I’ve wanted to read the book for a while, but I never got around to it. I guess this way I will be surprised by the twists and turns of the show. We also just watched the first episode of the Netflix show, Sense8. I’m going to watch a few more before I decide to stick with it or not.
Needing // A haircut! It’s been far too long and my ends are dead and scraggly.
Loving // My new fancy flash* and more organized photography “nook” that Mark surprised me with for my birthday last month. I know rule #1 of food photography is natural light but this area doesn’t get too much of it (nor does anywhere in our house thanks to all the shade) and most of my food photography is done at odd hours anyway. So…it’s a great flash! With it and my 50mm lens* that I got for Christmas and decades-old tripod, I’m trying to improve my skills. It’s a long road (in other words: I still suck), and I’m truly amazed at all your self-taught photographers! I am proud of the photos in yesterday’s post, though.
Not loving // POLLEN!!!! Spring is here, folks—and it threw up all over my car and into my nose.
Eating // I’ve been eating a lot of toast + nut butter. Breakfast tends to be portable these days since I am always rushing to work (no matter what time I get up!), but I’ve also been loving yogurt + granola + sliced banana.
Drinking // WATER. Mostly fruity stuff like homemade citrus water, La Croix, and some sparkling water we found at Whole Foods.
Craving // A date night! I know our vacation in January was full of “couple time,” but I want us to go on a proper date. Our anniversary is in April, so we may have to wait till then for a weekend getaway. There are a few new restaurants I want to try in town, too: Chuck’s Fish and Southern National (when it opens).
Avoiding // Scheduling an eye exam. I’m pretty sure my prescription has gotten worse and I want to get some new glasses (I love these!)—especially since I chose to purchase vision insurance this year—but I LOATHE eye exams like most people loathe the dentist. I get so nervous! #weirdo
Happy about // Wearing all the springtime clothes! I got a lot of cute, colorful things in my last Stitchfix* but I only managed to share one of the shirts. My stylist is the best—I’ve only received 2 fixes so far, but she hasn’t let me down yet! I may treat myself again in the summer.
Looking forward to // This weekend. The in-laws are visiting and I am going bowling with people from work. Should be fun. I haven’t been bowling in ages, so hopefully I’m not sending my ball into the gutter all afternoon!

What a fun weekend on tap! Love that top from Stitch Fix. So pretty for spring. And yeah, I finally got a hair cut last week after literally almost a year I think of not. Whoops!
Catherine says
Thank you – I’m obsessed with the color! I bet it felt great to get that haircut 🙂

Hah I’ve been avoiding my teeth cleaning, but I FINALLY did it two days ago– woo!! Oh my gosh agreed on the pollen. I’m sneezing up a hizzle here!
Catherine says
Woohoo!!! Boo to the pollen though.
Emily says
I always feel bad for those who struggle with the pollen; I hope you get some relief soon!
And I need a haircut too. Lately I’ve been getting them every 6 months; my hair is pretty scraggly by the end of those 6 months. 😀
Catherine says
Pollen is the devil!!!! Glad I’m not the only one who gets infrequent haircuts 🙂

I Am currently watching 24 Legacy on Fox. I love that I don’t have to catch it on Sundays and can watch it when I have time later in the week. I missed this show so much!
I am craving a date night too, and a date hahaha
I haven’t had an eye exam in a loooooooooooooooooooong time. Maybe I could be seeing clearer, but I’ll never know. Mostly I would go just to get cute glasses 😉
Catherine says
Haha 🙂
I haven’t heard of that show – I’ll have to check it out.

I’m watching Big Little Lies- I LOVED the book! Enjoy!
Catherine says
It’s got a great cast! It’s kinda fun not knowing the story from the book it then again, books are usually so much better.
Alyssa says
I love that book and her in general!! She is so incredible. Also I love yogurt bowls. Looks like the perf breakfast
Catherine says
Yogurt bowls are so customizable. I definitely plan to read more of her books when I finish this one.

I LOVED The Gifts of Imperfection. It was short and easy enough to read that I didn’t feel so weighed down and overwhelmed by a self help type of book. I also own I Thought It Was Just Me, But It Isn’t by her, but that one seems a lot heavier so I’ve avoided picking it up lol.
Catherine says
Haha, sounds like what I would do.
Yeah, I haven’t picked up The Gifts of Imperfection in a couple days but I’m sure I’ll finish soon since it’s such a quick read.
