Last year I did a little round-up of my most popular posts of 2016, and I thought I’d do the same this year.
I don’t write for A Cup of Catherine as much as I used to. I’m busier and I’m learning that other things—family, work, and play—deserve more attention than this blog, despite my love of writing and sharing with you guys.
I do think, however, that the quality of my posts has improved. I don’t write just to get clicks and page views—I jot down ideas that come to me when I’m challenged, disappointed, enlightened, frustrated, or just plain curious.
So, with all that said, THANK YOU for reading. Your comments and shares make it worthwhile to be vulnerable and creative in this space. I write for myself, yes, but I also write for you guys, with hopes that something I say will inspire you or resonate or, at the very least, make you feel less alone in your experiences. So many, many thanks to each of you for supporting A Cup of Catherine and sharing a bit of yourselves with me. <3
Here are my top 10 posts of 2017…
1) How Taking An Antidepressant Changed My Life
I feel like maybe I should revisit this one? In September I switched to a different SSR, and I just weaned myself off that one and have gone back to my original one. I’ve yet to determine whether switching was a good idea or not. It’s such a trial and error thing (which sucks for us immediate gratification seekers!), and I’ve learned that adding therapy to the mix is even more beneficial.
2) Mint Chocolate Energy Bites
You guys must like mint + chocolate as much as I do. Such a winning combo!
3) In 3 Years I’ve Gained 10 Pounds
Oh, I’d forgotten about this post, so I’m glad it resonated with you guys and ended up on this list. While I still have my negative body image days (who doesn’t?), I am so happy for my health and all that this “perfectly imperfect” body has allowed me to do.
4) Adagio Teas Earl Grey Lavender Panna Cotta
I’m surprised by this one—considering it’s the first and only panna cotta I’ve made! I think something like this would be perfect for a bridal shower or Mother’s Day tea, so keep it in mind for next year.
5) Healthy Green Matcha Mint Smoothie
Another serendipitous reminder, since I still have some matcha to use up. Maybe this will be breakfast soon! Green is in fashion year-round, after all.
6) King Cake Cookies (Only 4 Ingredients)
Oh, you can bet I’ll be making these again come February/Mardi Gras (and probably these as well). They’re so stinking easy, and it’s fun to play around with different cake mixes.
This was an important post, because it’s so easy to get wrapped up in the trendy aspects of self-care that we forget to look out for ourselves daily. Taking your prescribed medications, showering, walking that extra block, eating a full 3 servings of vegetables a day, speaking to yourself compassionately when you make a mistake… All of those are #boringselfcare but perhaps more important than spa treatments and bubble baths! Take care of yourself, friends.
8) I Think I Might Be Over Group Fitness
Well, good news is I still enjoy group fitness (and hyperbolic titles, apparently). I guess I just needed to explore some new classes and revisit my “why.”
9) Life Lessons Learned From Fitness
Much like the above post, this one is all about my evolving motivation for exercise. Now I love to move and celebrate my body, and by doing so, I am a positive example for my son.
I’m glad you enjoyed my anti-New Year’s resolution post! I’m not sure how successful I’ve been regarding these goals, but looking back at this gives me an opportunity to revisit and recommit to some positive changes.

Your post on antidepressants really resonated with me. I found it very insightful.
Catherine says
Thanks, Kimberly! I know when I googled (bad idea) antidepressants before starting mine, all I saw on the web was horrifying, negative reviews of side effects. I’m glad to contribute a small part of the “other” side of them.

“I might be over group fitness” and “boring self care” were some of my favorites, as well as your posts about antidepressants. so grateful to have connected with a soul like yours on this platform <3 your writing and things you post about are so relatable.
Catherine says
Aw, thanks, Alyssa. I’m grateful we’ve connected here, too. I always find insight in your posts.
I’m glad you liked the group fitness post because that was definitely a reactionary post to a bad class!
