This light blue smoothie—made with Adagio Tea’s limited edition Bella Luna Blue Tea—gets its natural, blue hue from butterfly pea flowers. With banana and a hint of vanilla, this gorgeous smoothie is the perfect breakfast or snack.
Food can be so beautiful.
I think that is one of my favorite parts of blogging—new foods. While I’ve had my ups and downs around food and fallen victim to some stupid trends (and avoided some—no “water fasting” for me, thank you!), I’ve discovered many of my favorite foods, drinks, and brands through other bloggers and Instagram.
Last year I was introduced to Adagio Teas, and I have to say, their selections are on point.
Their Earl Grey Lavender Tea was spectacular in my panna cotta recipe, and I’ve been enjoying cups of Peony tea in the evenings when I want to relax.
But this Bella Luna Blue tea! It’s magical.
Bella Luna Blue is only available on the day of a blue moon, but you’re in luck. The next blue moon—which is simply the second full moon in a calendar month—falls tomorrow, March 31. Be sure to order a batch of your own!
This tea does have a strong blueberry aroma, but the taste is more muted. It has a mild sweetness and a slight lemony flavor thanks to the lemongrass.
And the really cool part? Once you’ve had your fill of the gorgeous deep indigo color, you can add a few drops of lemon juice and it will turn an equally lovely magenta hue.
And who says playing with your food (or drink) is a bad thing?
Anyway, I wanted to get a little creative with this tea, so I’m bringing you another smoothie. If you’re not a fan of bananas, you might want to skip this one because, to avoid washing out the blue hue, I had to stick with light colored add-ins. Oh, and if you really want a deeper blue, let your smoothie sit and “de-froth” before taking photos. I neglected that part! 😉
Anyway, give it a try!
Bella Luna True Blue Smoothie
serves 1
Ingredients
- 1 large frozen banana
- 1/3 cup frozen cauliflower
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder *
- 1 cup Bella Luna Blue tea**
Directions
- Add all ingredients to your blender or Magic Bullet.
- Blend until smooth, pour into a glass, and drink up!
*I used Sunwarrior Warrior Blend Vanilla (affiliate link).
**Steep tea according to package instructions. Allow to cool completely before adding to your smoothie.
The color is not as vivid as it would be using dehydrated butterfly pea flower, but I think it’s a fun way to enjoy the blue moon and this delicious tea. If smoothies aren’t your thing, then I highly recommend sipping a cup of this tea on its own.

The moon was amazing! And thank you.
Cauliflower is my new favorite add-in for smoothies – it’s so neutral, you don’t even taste it!
