So, if you are a Facebook friend or follower on Instagram, then you’ve probably already heard the news….
WE BOUGHT A HOUSE!!
Right now we are still in our old place, but we are so excited and anxious to move in once some painting and flooring is completed.
The home itself is so unlike anything I ever imagined buying (1970s ranch-style bordering suburbia vs. historical dream home in Midtown), but so is the story of my life, right?
I guess that’s why I’m so indecisive—the universe usually knows better than my first instincts (except with Mark—I always knew he was special <3).
So, yes, house hunting has been a big reason I’ve been somewhat MIA on the blog lately. I’m sure packing (and unpacking), cleaning, decorating, and creating our perfect “home” inside this sturdy-yet-charming brick house will take up some time in the next few months, but I plan to share some of the process with you guys.
This home is so perfect.
Yes, it’s old(er), and yes, we are making some much-needed cosmetic changes (carpet, paint, light fixtures, etc.), but this home has already felt so much love.
It’s in a well-kept, tree-lined neighborhood, and the previous owners (the only owners, matter of fact) took fantastic care of the place.
I’m especially in love with the open kitchen, fireplace, ceiling beams, and large sunroom! The yard is just the right size for Bazooka, and it’s already fenced in so Iggy can’t escape.
I thought it perfectly fitting that, just a few days before our closing, I read the chapter “It’s Just Paint” in Jen Hatmaker’s Of Mess and Moxie (affiliate link). Jen details her experience moving into and renovating an old farm house for TV with both humor and wisdom.
This quote in particular stood out to me:
I’m unfortunately impatient, easily flustered by clutter/disorder, and prone to “instant gratification syndrome,” but I’m hoping I can relax, enjoy the process, and remember that HOME is much more than crisp paint, immaculate kitchens, and perfectly styled entryways.
Sharing big news: We bought a house! Share on XSo tell me…
- If you’re a homeowner, what was the most exciting part of the process for you?
- What would your dream home look like?
- Any tips for a new homeowner?

Be sure to have a spot (or two) in your new home where you can hide from the world. Mine is my vintage, pink bathroom … it’s my sanctuary. Congratulations!

Ha! There are so many doors in this house (+ an extra bedroom and sunroom), that I will definitely be able to close myself off from the world when needed.
I love the sound of that vintage pink bathroom; there’s just something about retro tile! 🙂
