This holiday cookie and candy round-up highlights the best of the best this Christmas season. Pick one or pick them all and start baking to share with friends and family.
Growing up, one of my favorite holiday traditions was all the baking my mom did.
She still makes her rum cakes (pretty sure Mark would “divorce” the family if she stopped!), but she doesn’t really make all the candy from my youth.
My longtime favorite was “peanut butter balls” (I was well into adulthood before I learned that Ohioans call these “buckeyes”—guess I’m a #shelteredsoutherner), but I also fondly remember date nut balls, Oreos dipped in vanilla almond bark, “Martha Washington balls,” fudge, and these little gelatin-like strawberries (with a green-dyed almond sliver as a “stem”).
This year decorated sugar cookies with Bazooka, and if time permits, we will probably experiment with some homemade cookie recipes as well as chocolate-coated pretzels and such.
