This refreshing blueberry mint Moscow mule will be your new favorite summer cocktail! Plus, it’s the perfect drink to showcase beautifully handcrafted copper mugs from Moscow Muled.
The 4th of July holiday probably means—in addition to celebrating our country’s independence—sunshine, swimsuits, outdoor barbecues, and cold drinks. At least that’s what it means at our house!
It’s crazy hot here in Alabama, so if I’m going to be outside relaxing for any length of time, you can bet I’ll have an icy beverage within reach. And extra sunscreen (you can never be too careful).
Recently I was given the opportunity to test out a set of gorgeous handmade copper mugs from the small, Vancouver-based business, Moscow Muled.
These stunning mugs crafted from 100% copper, hammered by hand, and lined with a thin coating of high-quality, food-grade nickel (some studies show that acid from citrus and other cocktail ingredients can cause a chemical reaction with copper, so lining is important!), which aids to strengthen the mugs.
With a gorgeous shine and carefully welded handles, they are quite the conversation piece and vehicle for a delicious, fruity, garden-fresh blueberry mint Moscow mule!
Blueberry Mint Moscow Mule
serves 2
Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 handful blueberries + extra for garnish
- 1 handful fresh mint and basil + extra for garnish
- ice
- vodka
- lime wedges + extra for garnish
- ginger beer
Directions
- In a small saucepan, combine water, sugar, and mint/basil leaves. Squeeze the blueberries to release their juices and drop them into the mixture. Heat until sugar is dissolved and the flavors are well infused into the simple syrup. Strain and set aside to cool.
- Fill 2 copper mugs with ice (crushed works best, but any kind will do). Into each mug, pour 1 ½ shots of vodka, the juice of ¼ lime, 1 shot of blueberry-mint simple syrup, and 2-3 shots of ginger beer. Adjust any ingredients according to taste/desired strength, and garnish with extra blueberries, mint/basil leaves, and lime wedges. Drink up!
*Note: You will have plenty of left over simple syrup; just store in the refrigerator. Same goes for the ginger beer that isn’t used!
If you haven’t picked out a special drink for the holiday, don’t fret! You still have a day to gather your ingredients and prepare this refreshing Moscow mule, and if you want to make them extra festive for Independence Day, add some juicy red strawberries or raspberries to the mix!
