I’m incredibly late to this trend, but for the remainder of the days leading up to Christmas and for the wintry weeks ahead, I’m embracing the concept of hygge.
Pronounced “hoo-ga,” this Danish cultural identity is best defined as a quality of coziness and calm that engenders a feeling of well-being and contentment.
Sounds amazing, right? And something we need more of amidst the hustle and bustle of the holidays.
Now that I’ve completed 95% of my holiday shopping and am looking forward to a few days off from work, I’m planning to create my own hygge however I can.
A Holly Jolly Hygge Holiday with EarthKind
To start, I’ll light more candles
And I’ll enjoy cooking (or accompanying my wonderful husband while he cooks) more at home, especially hot soups and comforting meals
I’ll cozy up with all the warm blankets and wooly socks and spend more time reading, journaling, and relaxing
And I’ll dress for the weather—assuming we actually get some genuinely cold weather here in the Deep South
Truth be told, my collection of cozy sweaters ends up spending too much time deep within my closet since south Alabama enjoys a perpetual summer and extremely short, fickle winter!
But thanks to EarthKind®, I can keep my sweaters extra fresh with their delightfully scented Stay Away® Moths packets and plastic-free pod.
While I’ve never noticed any moth holes in my clothes, I have smelled some mustiness after I pull them from the dark abyss of my overstuffed closet.
Scented with essential oils like geranium, cedar wood, and almond, the Stay Away Moths sachets are a safe and natural way to keep the staleness at bay.
They’re also great for the linen closet, keeping our guest towels and sheets nice and fresh.
While hygge is more than just warm clothes, soft lights, and mugs of tea, with some simple effort, we can make our free time a bit more comfortable and relaxing.
And who knows? Maybe we can transfer some of that warmth into our attitudes and the things—like work, school, finances, etc.—that really stress us out and keep us on edge.
