Since the days—and decade—are quickly passing, I thought I’d wrap up 2019 here on A Cup of Catherine with a small list of my most best posts from the year.
It’s definitely a shorter list than years past because I haven’t shared a lot of content on here. In fact, I know of at least 2 months where I didn’t post anything at all.
I still love this space and thank you all for reading and supporting me, but sometimes, life is to be lived rather than recorded.
This year had its ups and downs—mostly ups—and I hope each of you can say the same. Enjoy the final days of 2019, and may 2020 bring you much joy, good health, and prosperity.

5) You Can’t Hate Yourself Happy
I still remember how much I loved this quote—“you can’t HATE yourself happy”—when I heard it during a podcast. It’s absolutely true. I have a relentless inner critic, and I am still learning that tearing myself down isn’t going to make me better. Instead of focusing on your perceived shortcomings, try practicing some self-compassion.
4) Come as You Are: NEDA Week 2019
Never having had a diagnosed eating disorder but experiencing my fair share of negative body image thoughts and fears/rules concerning food, I’ve always looked forward to posting during NEDA Week. I found 2019’s theme “Come as You Are” to be especially important because, no matter what your struggle is, you should never feel ashamed for seeking help. Nor should you feel that you must be “sick enough” or “sad enough” to benefit from professional help or the support of loved ones. Remember that in 2020, please.
3) How Motherhood Has Shaped My Support of Reproductive Rights
I’m not sure if we will choose to have more children, but since I am a woman of reproductive age, the nation-wide assault on women’s health and reproductive rights is always a concern of mine.
Instilling fear into women, restricting their medical options, and passing draconian laws that punish well-meaning, honorable, and talented physicians is NOT going to prevent unwanted pregnancies and unnecessary abortions. Regardless of our personal views, I hope we can all eventually agree that education and access to health resources are the solutions we need.
Parenting (or caretaking) is hard. This open letter was written to myself as much as it was to any and all other moms and caretakers who need some encouragement. As long as we do our best to raise loving, intelligent, well-nourished, and kind individuals, then we are succeeding.
1) Stop Cyberbullying Day 2019
How fitting that my most-read post of the year was about cyberbullying, since I’m still dealing with almost-daily trolling. I guess I have to give them props for persistence—and a heartfelt “thank you” for the engagement and page views I continue to receive because of their constant presence. 😉
But, being serious, I appreciate the support. And I value all the other truth-tellers out there sharing their own stories, the struggles they’ve overcome, and encouragement for fellow creators and encouragers. We stand to gain SO MUCH when we lift up one another. Bullying isn’t a sign of strength; it’s a sign of fear and weakness, and we can’t allow it to pervade our daily conversations more than it already has.
