Hi, I’m Catherine—and I’m so glad you’re here!
ABOUT CATHERINE
I was born and raised in southern Alabama and love the Gulf Coast. I am married to the love of my life, Mark, and we have one son, affectionately called Bazooka here on the blog, a miniature dachshund, Iggy, and a rescue hound named Nola Roux.
I’m a big fan of gymnastics (I competed until age 13), will try any food at least once, and have a minor obsession with London (and all of Europe, really). One day I will travel throughout Europe with an unlimited wallet and agenda (one day…).
I’m a terrible DIY-er, I’m not a huge fan of cleaning, and I am somewhat short-tempered (but that’s because I’m passionate!). I may hate small talk, but I love genuine conversation, people-watching, and hearing other people’s stories.
As long as I can remember, writing has been my “therapy” (my second form of therapy would be nature—I love being outside, as long as it’s not mosquito season, and my third form or therapy would be, well, therapy). I guess that’s why I’ve grown to adore blogging.
WHY “A CUP OF CATHERINE?”
For starters, my old blog—foodiecology—just didn’t fit anymore.
Back in 2012, my husband (the chef of the family!) spent most of his evenings in graduate school, so I decided to learn how to cook, which led to the creation of what I’d envisioned as a recipe blog.
As much as I adore food, I quickly learned my talent does NOT lie in the kitchen. Thus, I began incorporating some fitness and life musings into this space.
After learning I was pregnant in 2014 with my first child, I turned to this space to chronicle my journey through pregnancy. Later, I began to share my thoughts on motherhood.
As I continued to blog under the name foodiecology, I began to feel increasingly limited. My blogging “community” had begun to grow, and I wanted to use my blog as a space to truly be myself. I needed something that represented the WHOLE OF ME—not just a singular interest (food).
I like alliteration—a “pinch” or a “dash” of Catherine just didn’t sound right—but more importantly, I think of a cup as a metaphor for our lives.
Day to day, you might think I am a pessimist (I tend to internalize my mistakes and let my anxiety get the best of me), but when it comes to life, I have worked tremendously hard to fill my cup.
My cup is full of joy, family, healthy living, delicious food, deep thinking, and zeal for life.
A Cup of Catherine is a place where honesty, gratitude, and encouragement flow freely—a place where you and I can sit and share a metaphorical cup of coffee (or tea, if that’s your preference) together like old friends and talk about life in a nonjudgmental way.
On A Cup of Catherine, you will find simple recipes, reviews, blogging tips, race recaps and other fitness endeavors, thoughts on healthy living, musings on motherhood and mental health, and talk of life in general.
I do hope you’ll hang around! If you have any questions or comments, visit my contact page.
